Maharashtra Political Crisis: Sanjay Raut's "dismissal of Vidhan Sabha" tweet raises eyebrows; Shiv Sena surrenders?
In the midst of the Maharashtra political crisis, senior Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut tweeted, "Journey of political developments in Maharashtra towards dismissal of Vidhan Sabha .." Has the Shiv Sena surrendered?
Mumbai: Amid the ongoing tussle for power in the Shiv Sena-led Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government in Maharashtra, Senior Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut took to microblogging platform Twitter to write, " .." which translates to "Journey of political developments in Maharashtra towards dismissal of Vidhan Sabha.." Raut's tweet raised eyebrows and left people wondering if this was a big hint that Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, facing a coup in his party, was willing to dissolve the assembly and give up power rather than compromise.
The Shiv Sena's crisis began on Tuesday, when senior leader Eknath Shinde went "incommunicado" with a large number of MLAs, prompting Mumbai police to send a large contingent to the party's headquarters in the Dadar area.
Meanwhile, Sena leader Aaditya Tahckeray has asked Sena workers to protest outside the homes of rebel MLAs, according to BBC Marathi.
As soon as the news of Shinde's rebellion broke, hundreds of party workers flocked to Shiv Sena Bhavan, with the number growing by the hour, most of them enraged by the challenge thrown at Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray.
Uddhav Thackeray, the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, dispatched two Shiv Sena leaders to meet and hold a detailed discussion with rebel Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde and other MLAs at a hotel in Surat to defuse the internecine crisis that threatens the survival of the MVA government in the neighbouring state.
CM Udhhav Thackeray also spoke with Eknath Shinde. The phone call lasted 20 minutes. Uddhav persuaded Shinde to return. According to sources, Shinde insisted on re-alignment with the BJP.
