New Delhi: In a major development in the Lakhimpur Kheri case, the Forensic Science Laboratory on Tuesday confirmed that shots were fired from the licensed guns of accused Ashish Mishra and Ankit Das during the October 3 violence, according to reports.

The police had seized Ankit Das' repeater and pistol and Ashish Mishra's rifle and revolver, India Today reported.

The firearms were later sent for forensic testing on October 15. At the time, farmers alleged that Ashish and Ankit fired several rounds during the October 3 violence, in which eight people, including four farmers, died.

Ashish Mishra is son of Union Minister of State (MoS) for Home Affairs Ajay Mishra Teni.

This comes a day after the Supreme Court on Monday noted that the investigation in the Lakhimpur Kheri violence case is "not going" the way as expected. The top court on Monday again expressed dissatisfaction with the Uttar Pradesh Police probe into the matter. It also proposed to appoint a former Judge from Punjab and Haryana High Court to monitor the ongoing investigation.
