Bengaluru (Karnataka): The state police has detained Congress leaders DK Shivakumar, Siddaramaiah, and others who were marching toward Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai's residence seeking resignation of Minister KS Eshwarappa in connection with the death of contractor named Santosh Patil. The leaders have been detained at High Grounds Police Station.

Earlier in the day, the state Congress leaders and party workers protested in front of Vidhana Soudha where DK Shivakumar said, "We'll continue to protest here all night".

The Congress delegation has been asking for the resignation as well as arrest of Eshwarappa with the corruption charges against him for allegedly demanding commission from the deceased contractor.

However, Karnataka Minister KS Eshwarappa, who earlier offered to submit resignation if state Chief Minister Basavraj Bommai asks, said that 'there is no question of me resigning' due to any reason amid the strong opposition by the Congress.

The 37-year-old contractor allegedly committed suicide in a lodge in Udupi on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday by consuming some poisonous substance, according to police.

The contractor had earlier alleged that Eshwarappa demanded commission for the release of funds for the civil works undertaken by him at Hindalga village in Belagavi district ahead of a festival.

Earlier today, Patil's mortal remains arrived at his residence in Belagavi.

Meanwhile, the brother of the deceased contractor on Wednesday demanded the arrest of Eshwarappa and his close aides Ramesh and Basawaraj.

Prashant Patil (brother of the deceased) said, "Minister KS Eshwarappa, Basawaraj and Ramesh (Eshwarappa's close aides) must be arrested. We want justice."
