Mangaluru (Karnataka): An architectural design similar to a Hindu Temple was discovered under an old mosque on the outskirts of Mangaluru on Thursday (April 22).
This came to the fore during renovation work at Juma Masjid in Malali on the outskirts of Mangaluru. Repair work was being done by the mosque authorities.
Now, people are saying that there is every possibility of having a Hindu temple at this place. Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) leaders appealed to the district administration to stop the work till the documents are verified.
Meanwhile, the Dakshina Kannada Commissionerate has ordered to maintain the status quo of the structure till further orders. The administration is examining the land records and has appealed to the people to maintain peace.
Dakshina Kannada, Deputy Commissioner Rajendra KV said, “I have received information from the area officials and the police department regarding this issue. The district administration is looking into the entries regarding old land records and ownership details. We are the endowment department and the Waqf Board. Will take reports from both."
"We will check the validity of the claims and take an appropriate decision soon. Till then I have directed to maintain status quo and requested people not to jump to conclusions. I request people to maintain law and order and peace," the official said.
