Guwahati: As many as 60 people have tested COVID-19 positive in Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati, following which the institute had been declared as a containment zone. The information was shared by Assam's District Disaster Management Authority in a press release.
The release stated, "North Guwahati Revenue Circle has submitted report on IIT Guwahati, where 60 persons were sick and tested positive for COVID-19 with details of their place of stay and their boundaries."
As per the release, the police will reach out to people who have recently come in contact with the infected individuals and ensure they test for COVID-19.
"North Guwahati Police Station will prepare the list of persons who came with direct contact or indirectly to the above mentioned affected person during the event of their recent history and ensure sample collection of all the contacted personnel (directly or indirectly) by deploying the medical persons," it added.
The authority informed that "Ms. Rashmi Pratap, ACS, Circle Officer, North Guwahati Rev. Circle, will ensure that the orders promulgated under containment zone are strictly followed and no law and order situation arise thereoff."
It also said Ms. Rashmi Pratap will be the in charge for monitoring the entire situation and ensure that proper facilities including food, sanitisers, health check-ups, collection of samples, among others, go on unhindered.
