New Delhi: The ongoing dispute between the central government and social media platform Twitter seems to be increasing now. The central government has given a final warning to Twitter regarding the implementation of new IT rules.
In the notice sent by the IT Ministry, it has been clearly said that the company should implement the new rules at the earliest, otherwise it may have to face serious consequences. This decision has been taken in a meeting chaired by Information Technology Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad on June 4 with senior IT officials.
The government said that Twitter is being given a final notice to comply with the new IT rules. If the rules are not followed, the exemption given under Section 79 of the IT Act 2000 will be abolished and Twitter will face action under the IT Act.
Earlier today, Twitter unverified the Twitter accounts of three big leaders, including the personal of Vice President of India M Venkaiah Naidu and RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat. However, later Twitter restored the blue tick of the Vice-President's account.
It was clarified by Twitter that the account of Vice President of India M Venkaiah Naidu was inactive since July 2020.
"In accordance with our verification policy, Twitter may remove blue ticks and verified status if the account is deactivated," a Twitter statement said.
However, the accounts of two prominent leaders of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) - Arun Kumar and Suresh Soni - are still unverified. A Twitter account is considered verified when it displays this blue tick. There is no official statement from Twitter regarding this issue yet.
On Saturday morning, Twitter removed the blue tick from the official Twitter handle of Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu, after which users on social media started expressing anger and displeasure. Apart from the Vice President, the verified blue tick has also been removed from the Twitter accounts of two top Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) leaders Arun Kumar and Suresh Soni.
Hours after dropping Vice President Venkaiah Naidu's verified blue tick, Twitter has now removed Blue tick from Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat.
