Mumbai: In a letter addressed to Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, an MLC urged to resume physical classes in educational institutions with 50 per cent capacity. The MLC cited that due to the closure of schools, parents are marrying off their daughters at an early age, while the boys have to work on the field.
The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) MLC Satish Chavan said the closure of schools due to pandemic was disturbing the children's studies. He asserted that the students are facing problems with their writing and reading skills whereas, it is also negatively impacting their power to attain knowledge.
Pointing out the functioning of malls, hotels and cinema halls with 50 per cent capacity, he questioned the state government that why schools cannot run in the similar manner.
Meanwhile, Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope, on Sunday, confirmed that the decision on reopening schools will be taken after 10-15 days, monitoring COVID situation in the state. He mentioned that the COVID cases among children are relatively low and shutting down schools is costing educational loss. He concluded by saying that the final decision on this matter will be taken by Maharashtra CM.
