New Delhi: The first consignment of Covaxin developed by Bharat Biotech was airlifted from Hyderabad to Delhi on Wednesday.
According to officials the first consignment of the coronavirus vaccine from Bharat Biotech was brought from AI 559 to Delhi at 6:40 am by Air India.
Dr. VK Paul, Member (Health), NITI Aayog, said on Tuesday, "The two COVID-19 vaccines Covishield and Covaxin that have received Emergency Use Authorization (EAU) have been tested on thousands of people and have no side effects yet. Has been observed. Noted that both vaccines are the safest. "
"Both COVID-19 vaccines (Covishield and Covaxin) are authorized for emergency use and there should be no talk about their safety. They have been tested on thousands of people and have no side-effects. There is no risk of any disease," Dr. Paul added.
The first phase of the COVID-19 vaccination campaign is scheduled to begin on January 16. Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan said that the central government is closely cooperating with the states and union territories for the vaccine roll-out.
"From January 16, all preparations for the vaccine roll-out are on track," he said.
Covaxin has been developed indigenously by BharatBiotech in collaboration with the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) - National Institute of Virology (NIV).
