Chennai: DMK President M.K. Stalin was sworn in as the next Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu this morning.
Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit administered the oath of office to DMK President Stalin at the swearing-in ceremony held at Tamil Nadu Raj Bhavan.
During the previous DMK government (2006-2011), Stalin was the Deputy Chief Minister and his father M Karunanidhi was the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister. Hence Stalin became the Chief Minister of the state for the first time.
The DMK won 133 seats in the Tamil Nadu assembly elections and its other allies, including the Congress, have won a total of 159 seats in the 234-member assembly.
The AIADMK has won 66 seats while its allies BJP and PMK have won four and five seats respectively.
