Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has demanded a package of 20 thousand crores for the development of Digha and Sundarbans areas which are badly affected by the Cyclone Yaas from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The West Bengal Chief Minister met Prime Minister Narendra Modi who reached West Bengal on Friday at the Kalaikunda Air Force Base to take stock of the damage caused by Cyclone Yaas and submitted a report on the damage caused by Cyclone Yaas to the state.
She told PM Modi that West Bengal is estimated to have suffered a loss of Rs 20,000 crore due to Cyclone Yaas. She requested a package of Rs 10 thousand crore for the development of cyclone affected Digha and Sundarbans.
After this, the West Bengal Chief Minister reached Digha and held an administrative meeting about Cyclone Yaas. In the meeting, Mamata Banerjee said that Digha will be beautified afresh. She entrusted the responsibility of the post of Chairman of Digha Development Authority to Alapan Bandyopadhyay, Chief Secretary of the state in this regard.
The West Bengal Chief Minister reached Sagar Island from there and took stock of the damage caused by Cyclone Yaas.

Mamata Banerjee will visit Digha, Nandigram and other cyclone affected areas on Saturday. She said that cyclones will continue to come at regular intervals, so a permanent solution needs to be worked out. To reduce the impact of cyclone, five crore saplings have been planted in South 24 Parganas district. A similar scheme is being prepared for Digha.
Mamata Banerjee did not attend PM Modi's meeting on Cyclone Yaas
Mamata Banerjee was not involved in the meeting organized by PM Modi at the Kalaikunda Air Force Base regarding Cyclone Yaas.
According to sources, Mamata Banerjee did not attend the meeting due to the invitation of BJP leader and Leader of Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly Suvendu Adhikari.
It has also been learned from sources that on behalf of the West Bengal Chief Minister's office, a letter was written to the Prime Minister's Office asking why MLAs and MPs are being included in this meeting.
