New Delhi: India has recorded a new high of 4,14,188 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24-hour, taking the caseload to 2,14,91,598, according to the Union Health Ministry. Health ministry numbers showed 3,915 deaths were reported in the same time, taking the overall toll to 2,34,083. However, 1,76,12,351 Covid-19 patients have recovered, meanwhile the active cases are at 36,45,164.
It is the third time after May 1 that India has crossed the four lakh mark of active cases in last 24 hours. On Thursday, India recorded 4,12,262 cases. For the 15th straight day, India has recorded more than three lakh cases while over 3,000 casualties have been reported for the last nine days.
The top five states that have registered maximum cases are Maharashtra (62,194), followed by Karnataka (49,058), Kerala (42,464), Uttar Pradesh (26,622) and Tamil Nadu (24,898).
The Health Ministry said that a total of 16,49,73,058 people have been vaccinated so far in the country, including 23,70,298, who were administered vaccines in the last 24 hours.
According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), 29,86,01,699 samples have been tested up to Thursday (May 6) for Covid-19. Of these 18,26,490 samples were tested on Thursday.
Meanwhile, the overall global Covid-19 caseload has topped 155.6 million, while the deaths have surged to more than 3.25 million, according to the Johns Hopkins University.
