New Delhi: India has reported 22,431 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, 19% higher than yesterday's figure when the country reported 18,833 Covid cases. About 318 deaths were recorded during the same period, according to the Health Ministry.
The country's tally of COVID-19 cases have reached 3,38,94,312, while the death count mounted to 4,49,856, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said.
A total of 14,31,819 COVID-19 tests were conducted on Wednesday, informed the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) today. A total number of 57,86,57,484 tests have been conducted so far.
The active caseload stands at 2,46,687 - which is the lowest in 203 days, said the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. A decrease of 6,215 cases has been recorded in the active Covid-19 caseload in a span of 24 hours.
The daily rise in new coronavirus infections remained below 30,000 for the 12th straight day. So far, 92,63,68,608 people have been vaccinated against COVID-19.
Bharat Biotech on Wednesday submitted data from its Covid-19 vaccine trial in children aged 2 to 18 to the drug regulator, becoming the first company in the country to test its vaccine for children.
Last month, the Drug Controller General of India had allowed Serum Institute to enroll kids aged 7 to 11 years for its trial of US drug maker Novavax's Covid-19 vaccine.
Meanwhile, global coronavirus caseload has topped 236.4 million, while the deaths have surged to more than 4.82 million and vaccinations soared to over 6.36 billion, according to the Johns Hopkins University.
