New Delhi: India's covid-`19 tally crossed 96 lakh with 36,652 new cases in last 24-hour, according to Health Ministry's update as of 8 :00 a.m. Out of 96,08,211 confirmed cases of the virus in the country 90,58,822 people have recovered so far, 4,09689 are active cases and 1,39,700 people have lost their lives.
India recorded over 500 deaths for the fourth straight day with 512 more people dying due to the virus. Meanwhile, recoveries again outpaced total number of cases as 42,533 more people recuperated from the virus in last 24 hours, the Ministry said.
The national recovery rate has further improved to 94.28 per cent while the fatality rate stands at 1.45 per cent.
The total number samples tested up to Friday since the inception of pandemic stands at 14,58,85,512. Of these, 11,57,763 samples were tested yesterday: Indian Council of Medical Research.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday chaired an all-party meeting to discuss the covid-19 situation and vaccination drive with political leaders of various outfits. In the meeting, the Prime Minister assured that India will surely get a successful vaccine in few weeks. Doctors, nurses, frontline workers and essential service providers will be the first to receive vaccination, he further added.
He has also asked all the leaders present at the meeting to submit their opinion on the pandemic situation in writing and has said that suggestions will surely be acted upon.
Meanwhile, the overall number of global coronavirus cases has surpassed 65.7 million, while the deaths recorded have reached over 1.51 million, according to the Johns Hopkins University.
US, the worst affected country by the pandemic, in a new grim record, reported 225,201 new cases of covid-19 on Friday, the highest single-day spike since the pandemic hit the country.
The new addition on Friday has taken the country's overall caseload to 14,343,430. With 2,506 new fatalities reported, the death toll have surged to 278,605.
