New Delhi: The number of coronavirus cases in India has crossed 56 lakhs and more than 90,000 people have died due to the COVID-19 virus so far.
To fight against the coronavirus pandemic, 3 Indian companies have started manufacturing COVID-19 vaccines. However, it is not yet clear when these coronavirus vaccines will become available.
Meanwhile, Dr. Balaram Bhargava, director of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), says that no coronavirus vaccine can be 100 percent effective. But Bhargava said that efforts are being made to make the coronavirus vaccine more effective.
Coronavirus vaccine is not 100 percent safe for respiratory patients
"No coronavirus vaccine can give 100 percent protection to respiratory patients infected with the COVID-19 virus," Dr Bhargava said.
"The World Health Organization (WHO) has said in a statement that the coronavirus vaccine should have three components: safety, immunity and effectiveness. So I would say that people who are fighting the disease will not be completely affected by the vaccine," he added.
"However, the World Health Organization (WHO) also stated that a 50 percent effective selective coronavirus vaccine could be accepted. Although we are moving towards 100 percent effectiveness, it will be between 50 and 100 percent."
Cadila and Bharat Biotech have completed the Phase-1 trial. The Serum Institute has completed Phase 2B3 trial. A third trial for the coronavirus vaccine will start soon.
