Jammu & Kashmir, Jan 18: In Jammu & Kashmir, two attacks on security forces were carried out by unidentified militants in Srinagar city center and Shopian in south Kashmir. However, there was no immediate report of any fatal or non fatal injuries in both the incidents so far.
Security sources confirmed that unidentified militants hurled hand grenade towards security personnel party near Ghanta Ghar (Click Tower) in Srinagar city this afternoon. They said the grenade exploded with damage to some vehicles and no one was hurt in the attack. Security forces launched search operation to nab the attackers.
Another hand grenade was lobbed towards J&K Police's SOG (Special Operations Group created against militancy) Camp in south Kashmir's Shopian area. There was no immediate report of any fatal or non fatal casualties in the incident.
No militant outfit claimed responsibility for today's attacks so far.
Yesterday afternoon, three police personnel including two traffic cops were injured in a grenade attack near Zero Bridge of Rajbagh area of Srinagar uptown. Later, militant outfit Jaish e Muhammad claimed responsibility for the same attack.
Security experts said that militants seem to have shifted focus and stepped up attacks on security personnel in Srinagar city and elsewhere in Kashmir ahead of January 26 celebrations. This is reminiscent of initial years of militancy in Kashmir.
