Guwahati: The BJP will be sharing seats in the Assam assembly elections 2021 with its allies. The BJP will contest in 92 seats, the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) in 26 and other parties in the ruling alliance in 8.
According to sources, an initial list of 84 BJP candidates has also been finalized, with more details on seats and names of candidates to be announced today. In 2016 BJP had won 60 seats out of 84.
A local party will be merging with BJP and will contest elections on the BJP symbol.
Two-time former Chief Minister and six-time MLA Prafulla Kumar Mahanta might not get a ticket this time. This might split the AGP.
BPF Chief Hagrama Mohilary, whose party is widely seen as the 'kingmaker' said, "How can they (BJP) win when I am not on their side? We will have to see the exit of the BJP in Assam."
BJP's Central Election Committee holds a marathon meeting in Delhi under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to decide the list of candidates in the 1st and 2nd phase of the election in West Bengal and Assam.
Assam will vote in three phases - March 27, April 1, and April 6. The result will be declared on May 2.
