New Delhi: The self-styled godman, Asaram Bapu, who was reported to have contracted covid-19 on Thursday, has been put on the ventilator after he was shifted to the ICU of MDM hospital in Jodhpur, Rajasthan. Asaram Bapu, who was in jail over sexual assault, had not been keeping well lately.
According to reports, Asaram was rushed to hospital on Thursday after facing covid related complications. After he suffered breathing problems, his samples were taken to test for covid-19, wherein it turned out that he has contracted the viral infection. "He has been put on ventilator support and his condition is stated to be stable."
After hearing the news regarding Asaram's health, many of his followers reached hospital. On Thursday, official had said that preparations are being made to shift Asaram to Jodhpur AIIMS.
Asaram is currently serving lifer in Jodhpur prison after being convicted and sentenced in the rape case.
Earlier, he had filed an appeal in the Rajasthan High Court against his sentencing in the rape case.
Asaram was sentenced to life imprisonment by an SC/ST court in the case of rape of a 16-year-old girl. In 2013, a minor girl had accused Asaram of raping her at Manai Ashram near Jodhpur. He was later arrested from Indore in Madhya Pradesh in 2014.
