IND vs UAE, Asia Cup: Vintage Yuvi, classy Rohit win match for India

New Delhi: UAE skipper Amjad Javed won the toss and elected to bat in a round-robin match against India at Sher-e-Bangla stadium in Mirpur on Thursday.

India started off with an excellent spell from Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah. The swing and speed from Hardik Pandya troubled the UAEs batsmen, too. Then came the spinners: Harbhajan Singh and Pawan Negi, who didn't allow them to play shots, took wickets at regular intervals, and restricted them to a total of 82.

Into the second inning, it was all about Sharma and Yuvi. Shikhar Dhawan seemed lost, however, carried his bat to the dressing room. The exquisite class from Rohit was all out on exhibition. Yuvraj, on the other hand, carried his momentum from the last match. He was promoted up the batting order and he reciprocated with same vigour.

And there it is. The winning shot from Yuvraj Singh. Four!

India 78/1 (10)

India 72/1 (9)

Vintage Yuvi on a roll here in Mirpur. Leading by example, he has shown a lesson for life: it's all in the approach, the attitude.

India 58/1 (8)

Meanwhile, on the other end Yuvi plays an immaculate drive for FOUR! off his second ball. His attitude, his approach has changed since the last encounter against Sri Lanka.

India 47/1 (7)

Finally, Shikhar Dhawan connects. He isn't looking confident today.

India 43/1 (6)

Over 5.5 Qadeer Ahmed to Sharma, OUT! short and wide outside off, begging on its knees to be smashed. Rohit can't put it away. He can only slash this loose ball to third man.

RG Sharma c Mohammad Naveed b Qadeer Ahmed 39 (28b 7x4 1x6) SR: 139.28

India 35/0 (5)

Sharma looks in a brilliant touch -- finding the middle of the bat everytime. Delightful batting!

India 24/0 (4)

What a comeback he has made after that. A couple delightful strokes earning him a Six and Four!

Third ball into the over, inside edge and just inches away from the off-stump.

India 8/0 (3)

Oh, there was a nick off Dhawan's bat and he gets away with it. The bowler and fielders were excited but the umpire nodded aginst their will. Not a good sportsmanship from the left-hander.

India 7/0 (2)

Two overs down, India looks quite composed. There's no need to hurry.

India 5/0 (1)

Sharma looks in great touch: is meddling the ball well, leaving it perfectly.

Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan walk into the middle.

India need 82 runs to win at 4.10 rpo

UAE 81/9 (20)

Over 19.5 OUT! banged in outside off, big swing and a miss from Raza. He takes off for a single. Dhoni collects the ball quickly and knocks the leg stump out. Shaiman gone for 43.

Shaiman Anwar run out 43 (68m 48b 3x4 1x6) SR: 89.58

Over 19.2 Negi takes a sky-high catch. And Bhuvi gets his second. Naveed hoicks it and sends a top edge over square leg. Negi judges it well.

Bhuvi to ball the last over.

UAE 80/7 (19)

And UAE escapes the lowest total of 73 with a SIX!

UAE 71/7 (18)

UAE 66/7 (17)

Over 16.6 Negi to Fahad Tariq, OUT! UAE continue to crumble. Make that 66 for 7. Speared at 92.9ks, pushed to the left of the bowler, more towards short cover. Tariq wants a non-existent single. Shaiman sends him back. He is run out by two yards.

Fahad Tariq run out 3 (5b 0x4 0x6) SR: 60.00

UAE 62/6 (16)

Over 15.5 Oh, that's a terrific catch by Pandya. OUT! there goes another UAE batsman trying to up the gear. Full on middle, Kaleem goes low and slogs it in the air. Pandya sprints in from long-on, flings himself forward even as the ball was dipping on him. He takes a superb low catches, inches from the turf.

The star that exploded last night, Yuvraj Singh is here; this time with slow arm ball.

UAE 57/5 (15)

"Nothing is hitting the middle of the bat today....." Oh Harsha, you can't be more right!

UAE 55/5 (14)

Over 13.2 And now it’s Bhajji. The turbanator has done it. Tossed up, drifts in and dips. Amjad bags a first-ball duck. He feebly chips it to the left of midwicket, simple catch. The Harbhajan-Negi combo in the thick of action, again

Amjad Javed c Negi b Harbhajan Singh 0 (2m 1b 0x4 0x6) SR: 0.00

UAE 52/4 (13)

Over 12.5 OUT! That’s his first wicket. First over in his debut, Negi gets Usman to toss the ball over midwicket  into Harbhajan’s safe hands.

Pawan Negi, the debutant is here.

UAE 42/3 (12)

UAE 39/3 (11)

A good find he is! Hardik Pandya is the player India has been on lookout for long: he has got pace, swing, and the ability to bat.

UAE 32/3 (10)

UAE 25/3 (9)

Over 8.3 OUT! He daparts. Mustafa was trying so hard to get out that finally when he did, there was no celebration from the Indian camp. Pandya drops the ball short, shaping away from the left-hander, who hit it straight to Kohli at covers.

Rohan Mustafa c Kohli b Pandya 11 (22b 2x4 0x6) SR: 50.00

Rohan Mustafa is trying so hard to hammer the ball; not even getting close to connecting it.

UAE 25/2 (8)

And a maiden from him.

Now, Bhajji is from the other side.

UAE 25/2 (7)

The young all-rounder Hardik Pandya is brought into attack.

UAE 21/2 (6)

UAE 14/2 (5)

Bhuvi is swinging the ball real nice -- into the left-hander and out the right-hander.

Selectors should have to take a call: Shami or Bhuvi; pace or swing; match-play or performance for ICC T20 World Cup?

UAE 7/2 (4)

Over 3.3 OUT! And now it’s Bumrah’s turn. Shahzad has nicked off for a duck! Short and outside off at 143ks, Shahzad has a leaden-footed jab away from the body. He can only edge it to the cordon. Raina grabs it in front of his face at second slip.

Mohammad Shahzad c Raina b Bumrah 0 (4b 0x4 0x6) SR: 0.00

Over 2.4 OUT! And Bhuvi has struck early. A good length ball angled in to Patel, goes for a leg flick. The ball hits the edge, lobbing in the air. Bhuvi takes a comfortable catch.

Jasprit Bumrah into the second over. Can he pick an early wicket?

UAE 0/0 (1)

Boy, he's back! Bhuvi is swinging the ball, into the left-hander. A good sign for India.

Bhuvi into the first over.
