New Delhi: After being selected twice over the four-engine Russian IL-78 in technical and commercial evaluation over the last decade, Airbus-330 midair refuelling aircraft is still awaiting its induction in Indian Air Force.
Reports claim, since the Airbus group is headquartered at Toulouse in France, with French President Francois Hollande arriving in India on Sunday, there may now be some additional pressure on the NDA government to fast-track the A-330 MRTT deal.
According to TOI, IAF has asked the defence ministry to either finalise the 10 year old deal as soon as possible or scrap it, to ensure that a new procurement case can begin afresh.
The long-pending deal will costs almost $2 billion to government.
The IAF first raised the demand for six Airbus-330 in 2006, after inducting six Ilyushin-78 midair refuelling aircraft in 2003-2004.
