Hyderabad: The BJP has broken into AIMIM supremo Asaduddin Owaisi's stronghold of Hyderabad.
The results of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) elections have been announced. The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is considered to be one of the largest municipal corporations in the country. This election had become so important for the BJP that the party sent most of its big leaders to campaign here.
Star campaigners of the BJP like Amit Shah and Yogi Adityanath campaigned for the party in the GHMC elections. Both leaders had big road shows in Hyderabad. Even BJP president JP Nadda had campaigned in Hyderabad.
In the GHMC elections, the BJP has registered a tremendous performance to win 49 seats. KCR's party TRS won 56 seats and Asaduddin Owaisi's party AIMIM bagged 43.
The GHMC is spread over 4 districts, including Hyderabad, Medchal-Malkajgiri, Rangareddy and Sangareddy. These areas cover 24 assembly constituencies, while Telangana has 5 Lok Sabha seats.
As far as southern India is concerned, after taking power in Karnataka, the BJP is now set to gain a foothold in Telangana, Tamil Nadu and Kerala.
In the 2016 Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) elections, the TRS had won 99 wards out of 150, while Asaduddin Owaisi's party AIMIM had won 44 wards.
