Chennai, Nov 9: Chennai, Nov 9 (PTI) Income Tax sleuths today raided the premises of Jaya TV here and its associates over suspected tax evasion as part of 'Operation Clean Money', sources said. The searches at the Tamil television channel, which is perceived to be politically disposed in favour of deposed AIADMK leaders V K Sasikala and TTV Dhinakaran, were conducted over alleged tax evasion.
Also, the allegation covers aspects like shell companies, dubious investments, fund flow and fudging of accounts, income tax sources here told PTI. The searches at the TV channel's accounts branch here is part of 'Operation Clean Money', sources said. Searches also cover the premises of Midas Distilleries and Jazz Cinemas, they said. The two entities are perceived to be associated with some of those linked to Jaya TV. Jaya TV also reported the searches by tax sleuths in its premises and at Jazz cinemas.
A total of 187 locations belonging to relatives of jailed AIADMK leader V.K. Sasikala, her nephew T.T.V. Dinakaran and organisations connected to them in several cities were raided, said a senior IT official.
Ten groups of IT officials were involved in "the search exercise taking place across Tamil Nadu, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Delhi and other places", an IT official told IANS preferring anonymity.
The tax officials also searched the residence of M. Natarajan, husband of Sasikala in Thanjavur, according to reports. They also raided the Kodanad Tea Estate belonging to late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa.
The official said the IT department will look at routing of funds within India and there are other agencies to look at routing of funds outside India. The IT officials are also searching the AIADMK Tamil daily Namadhu MGR.
