New Delhi: The World Health Organization(WHO) has showered the Yogi Adityanath led Uttar Pradesh government for its Covid-19 management strategy to tackle the virus which has claimed hundreds of thousand lives worldwide.
On Tuesday, the UP government issued a statement which stated Roderico Ofrin, WHO Country Representative, as saying that the state's management to mitigate the spread of covid-19 spread is exemplary. He also said that the chief minister and his government has set an example for the world by tracing high-risk covid cases.
"The UP government's strategic response to COVID-19 by stepping up contact tracing efforts is exemplary and can serve as a good example for other states," Ofrin said in a statement issued here by the state government.
The spokesperson also said that the high-risk contact tracing of patients infected with covid-19 was achieved through 70,000 healthcare workers who worked tirelessly to combat the situation.
Ofrin called contact tracing an essential public health tool for controlling the pandemic and said that systematic tracking of contacts through a proper mechanism is the key, along with a well-trainer health workforce to implement the surveillance activities.
"The WHO team provided technical support to the state government to boost contact tracing efforts and strengthen the capacity of field teams through training. Field monitors assessed the quality of contact tracing of 58,000 Covid-19 positive cases in 75 districts and found that 93 per cent of the high-risk contacts were traced and tested," said Madhup Bajpai, regional team leader, Uttar Pradesh Region, WHO-NPSP (National Police Surveillance Project).
Meanwhile, to curb the covid-19 surge in some districts, the state government has also issued an alert, providing a list of special precautions which are to be taken due to Chhath Puja.
