PCOS has become a very common problem among women which shows no signs of stopping. If data is to be considered, one in five women suffer from PCOS. The number has even intensified in this modern time and the lifestyle we have adhered to.
What is PCOS?
Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a hormonal disorder, which causes excessive hair growth on the face, increases or decreases weight, and leads to hair fall in women. Despite all this, the biggest problem that PCOS poses to women is abnormal and painful periods. Any change in your menstrual cycle may be the most prominent symptom of PCOS.
While identifying PCOS can be hard sometimes, it is necessary to recognize its early stages. Here're four changes in your menstrual cycle that indicate signs of PCOS
1. Not having periods
When you have PCOS, your hormones are not balanced. In many cases the cyst accumulates around your ovary. Do not remove the egg (reproductive cell of women) from your ovary due to hormonal inequality. Your periods are missed when the egg is not removed.
If more than one of your periods is missed, then that problem is called amenorrhea. Amenorrhea can result in infertility ie inability to have a baby. So always track your periods and contact a doctor if you miss.
2. Irregular Periods
Does it happen to you that periods happen before the date or sometimes it seems that this month will not happen. It is normal to be back and forth a couple of days, but if your periods are very irregular then it is time to go to the gynecologist.
3.Excess pain during periods
When your periods are irregular, the months in which periods occur are even more painful. PCOS causes your body to become very bloated and very painful. Not only this, because of PCOS, there are also more cramps.
4. Excess Flow
PCOS reduces progesterone levels and increases estrogen. Due to this, the blood layer formed in the uterus becomes very thick. This is why there is a lot of flow in periods and the periods last longer. Sometimes, blood clots also come out with blood. If you have high flow then go to the doctor. So that there is no problem in future.
PCOS cause hormone imbalance, which directly affects your reproductive organs. You are not able to ovulate properly. Due to which there is problem in conceiving. Fertility of many women is also affected. PCOS also damages your heart, so it is very important to get a doctor's advice and the right treatment.
