NEW DELHI (DIVYA SAINI): We all desire for hot beverages after popping out from the old weather from outside. But do you know the hot beverages can give you certain injuries including scalded tongue or a mouth sore, but the bigger risks come long after a person swallows something that’s too hot. The pain could last longer in the esophagus.

How much hot is too hot? At what temperature should we drink the hot beverages to prevent the esophageal cancer There is a temperature limit, which is based on individual tolerance.

The researchers also identified a beverage temperature range is associated with higher esophageal cancer risk. According to Islami, a scientific researcher said that individuals who regularly consumed beverages hotter than 140 degrees Fahrenheit have higher risk of cancer.

is the most common and deadly forms of cancer and is the sixth-leading cause of cancer deaths worldwide.

“What we studied was to wait for a few minutes (usually about 4 to 5 minutes) until hot beverages cool down,” Islami said.

“People may consider other ways to reduce their hot beverages’ temperature, such as adding ice, although we did not study this.” He added.

“Although a few studies have suggested an association between hot foods and esophageal cancer risk, more research is needed on this topic, as those studies had the similar limitations as to previous studies on hot beverages,” Islami said.

However, Islami said, to protect the cancer you just need to let it cool for 4 to 5 minutes after it is cool you can drink it. He said “I think what people could do is relatively simple: They could wait for a few minutes to let their hot beverages cool down,”

“They could still enjoy their favorite beverages without increasing their cancer risk by drinking them colder.” He further added.
