Southampton: New Zealand have won the toss and have opted to field against India at the Rose Bowl in Southampton.
All around the world people will witness the start of a historic clash in which Virat Kohli-led Team India will lock horns with Kane Williamson's New Zealand at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton.
India head coach Ravi Shashtri said, "On an occasion like this, we wanted to get out as quickly as possible. [On thoughts of changing the announced XI] Not really. Unless you would have had another washout today and the game had been reduced to a 2-3 day game, but otherwise with the kind of attack we have, we take the pitch out of the equation."
The first day of the World Test Championship (WTC Final) final match between India and New Zealand at the Rose Bowl in Southampton was washed out due to rain and the stumps were declared without a toss.
"New ball bowler, you would enjoy bowling here. A fair bit of grass which means the ball will certainly seam and with the overcast conditions it will also swing. Historically, it has helped seamers a lot more than spin. But if the sun does come out on days 3 and 4, spinners will come into play. Looks pleasurable for bowling," Simon Doull and Sunil Gavaskar in the pitch report.
This is India's first-ever Test at a neutral venue.
