How the world conspires for Liverpool to win Premier League
Indirectly, Jurgen Klopp stands against Pep Guardiola for the title decider but the former's team seems to have many more helping hands behind their back.
New Delhi: Liverpool and Manchester City are currently standing in a cut-throat competition and gearing up for their respective title deciders that are set to be played on Sunday, 22nd May.
Current table toppers, City has acquired 90 points and needs one more win to get their hands on the silverware whereas Liverpool is struck at 89 points and one more win can get them 3 points.
Winning Scenarios for Liverpool and City:-
If Manchester City win their game against Villa, their points tally will be 93 and they will become the champions, irrespective of the result of Liverpool vs Wolves. Thus, their fate lies in their own hands which is not the case for the Reds.
To win the title, Liverpool needs to win their fixture against Wolverhampton Wanderers FC on Sunday as this will get them 3 points and their total will be 92 points. Now, Klopp's boys would require Aston Villa needs to defeat or draw with
Man City on the same day. The defeat will restrict City at 90 and draw can take them to 91 which is not enough to become champions.
Indirectly, Jurgen Klopp stands against Pep Guardiola for the title decider but the former's team seems to have many more helping hands behind their back. Other than Liverpool, there are two more teams that would want them to win the fixture and City to lose their fixture against Aston Villa.
Multimillion-dollar twist in tale:-
Liverpool is set to play against Wolves on Sunday and there are financial advantages for the later if they underperform due to Jota deal.
Klopp's side signed Wolves' striker Diogo Jota in September 2020 in a deal worth $40 million, but only $4m were paid to the team upfront as the rest depends on the performance of the players and the buying club's performances.
After the deal, Liverpool has paid $13m more to Wolves and the last payment for several million will be due if Liverpool wins the title. Such deal can be the reason for Wolves to let their competitors to win the game and pray for City to lose their respective match.
Emotional support from Aston Villa:-
Aston Villa has a unique motivation to defeat Man City on Sunday as the team is coached by former Liverpool club captain and eternal legend Steven Gerrard. With former Reds Philippe Coutinho and Danny Ings also being in the squad of Villa, they may decide to do their former side a huge favor by beating City. However, there are financial aspects that can put the emotional support on the back seat.
Villa's ex-forward Jack Grealish was bought by City in a $100 million deal and if they win with him in the squad, Villa will earn an extra bonus of $15 million and this can trigger Gerrard's team to not go easy on their opponents.
