Manish Kumar, New Delhi: The Defence Ministry has objected to the way Indian Army personnel and their uniform are being misrepresented in films and web series.
Taking cognizance of complaints of misrepresentation of security forces in the film and web series etc., the Ministry of Defense has asked various ministries including the Film Certification Board to take a no-objection certificate before broadcasting such content.
The Ministry of Defence has written to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology and Ministry of Information and Broadcasting to ask production houses to take NOC before broadcasting any film or documentary or web series on security forces.
According to sources, the Ministry of Defence has received many such serious complaints in which Indian Army personnel and their uniform are being misrepresented in various films and web series.
This web series is on Code M Zee 5 and 'XXX Uncensored (season-2)' on ALT Balaji. The way the army is being portrayed in these series is beyond the truth. Some ex-servicemen and civilians have lodged an FIR against ALT Balaji and demanded action against the producer of the OTT platform.
The Ministry of Defence has written to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology and Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. The Defence Ministry has asked the production houses to take NOC from the Indian Army before the broadcast. It is being told that this has been done to avoid hurting the sentiments of the people.
The online series 'XXX: Uncensored 2', which was streamed on Ekta Kapoor's ALT Balaji, was heavily slammed for allegedly insulting the Indian Army and spreading obscenity. After the controversy, Ekta Kapoor had said in a statement that people's sentiments should not be hurt, so the objectionable material has been removed.
"Taking full responsibility for the situation, we believe that the series showed an objectionable scene which was an omission from our side. We say that it was not being produced by us despite the show coming in March," she said in the statement.
Significantly, there was a lot of controversy recently about Ekta Kapoor's web series 'XXX Unsubscribed'. People object to a scene filmed in an episode of this web series in which a woman calls her lover in the absence of her young husband, who has been depicted as an officer in the Indian Army and indulges in physical relations with him.
The reason for the dispute is also that the woman asks her lover to wear her husband's uniform and then tore that uniform. There was a lot of controversy about this, after which Ekta Kapoor had to apologise.
