Paris: The Messi-Ronaldo rivalry has been the favorite for the football fans as they present a cut-throat competition in being the best of all in the world.
As you may participate in the poll for the new winner of the Ballon d'Or, many of you would be unaware that this rivalry has been on the world stage since 2008 when Ronaldo defeated Lionel Messi, winning almost double of the votes received by Messi.

Messi sweated in the following year so-much-so that he went on to win the 2009s award with a margin of more than doubles of the votes he received.
The back-and-forth between the two greats continued for many years, but the golden ball kept getting collected Leo's shelf making glorious every preceding year till 2013 when Manchester United forward Ronaldo finally picked up his Ballon d'Or once again only to continue the victory in the next year as well.
Messi bounced back in 2015 to pick the award, but then Ronaldo was to beat him for another two years, registering five Ballon d'Or wins equal to Messi in 2017.
In the last edition of the awards, Messi surpassed Ronaldo to win the award for the record 6th time, and this is the year when the world would be eager to see whether Cris equaled the winning tally or fell behind with two loses.
Pascal Ferre, the editor in chief of France Football - the respected publication that decides the award, said to New York Times that the Manchester United forward wants to retire with more golden balls than Messi.
"Ronaldo has only one ambition, and that is to retire with more Ballons d'Or than Messi, and I know that because he has told me", said Ferre.
For a decade, 2008-2017, the Golden Ball has only been to these two stars who continue to dominate the Football world even today.
