Amravati: School teachers of 13 districts in Andhra Pradesh took to streets on Thursday to protest against the Pay Revision Commission (PRC) Government Orders (GOs) introduced by the state government.
As many as 3 lakh teachers have participated in the protest that was called by the Federation of AP Teachers Organisations (FAPTO). The call was made for the teachers to join protest at district collectorates.
As per the media reports, on Wednesday night, the police had issued a notice forbidding teachers to demonstrate before Collectors offices in lack of formal permission for staging protest.
However, the union still gathered in large number and showed their dissent through sloganeering. After which, the police had made several detentions on the day of protest. It has even put the leaders of the teachers' union on house arrest.
The security had been intensified at district collectorates in all 13 districts. Meanwhile, the teachers' association has accused the state government by calling the decision a betrayal.
