Haryana girl puts Karnataka on top at Fencing Nationals

New Delhi, Aug 13: Haryana has produced a host of athletes who have won international medals in wrestling and boxing.

But now it seems the state has produced a fencing star as well.

The 4th Children Cup and 10th Mini National Fencing Championship which took place at the Maharashtra Divisional Sports Complex, Panchvati, Nashik from August 6 to 8 who originally hails from Jhajjar, Haryana win two gold medals while turning out for Karnataka in the girls’ U-12 category.

She came out on top in both the Individual and Team events.

She singlehandedly ensured the runner up trophy for Karnataka state in Girls (U-12) overall events.

She was highly consistent and determined throughout the tournament. She exhibited rare display of flawless, sharpness and quickness on way by defeating number of players from other states and reigning champion.

For a long time, Haryana has been the most fertile state for the country in terms of sporting success. But fencing isn't a discipline where much headway has been made, whether in Haryana or any other part of the country.

She is eager to continue and improve her game. She has got an amazing and excellent prospect for India in future. A true moment and example of Beti Padao, Beti Khilao and beti Bachao campaign.

With its high-quality infrastructure and a supportive environment for a large variety of sports, Karnataka has become a popular destination for sportspersons to train and improve their performances. It seems that Sejal is certainly making full use of this opportunity.
