Half a dozen men booked for vandalising statue in Gurgaon

Gurgaon: POlice in Gurgaon has registered a case against more than half a dozen persons for vandalising Bahujan Samaj Party founder Kanshi Ram's statue here, a senior police officer said on Tuesday. Informed sources said a senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader was on police radar for Monday's incident at the Ambedkar Bhavan in Sector 4 where a few men with covered faces damaged the statue with hammers. The case under Sections 114, 506, 509, 427 and 120-B of the Indian Penal Code was registered at the Sector 5 police station, police station chief Shailender Shyoran told IANS. Police teams were collecting technical and other evidence on the basis of CCTV footage, he said. The politician suspected of involvement in the crime had allegedly objected to the installation of Kanshi Ram's statue alongside those of Lord Buddha and Bhimrao Ambedkar.
