Bijbihara Encounter: 6 militants killed in J&K gunfight

Srinagar, Nov 23: Six militants were killed after a gunfight broke out between militants and security forces in Sekipora area of Bijbhera in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Friday.A senior Police officer told News24 that six militants have been killed however their identity is yet to be ascertained as we are in process of retrieving bodies from the encounter site.Earlier SSP Anantnag Altaf Khan told News 24 that after having credible information about their presence, security forces cordoned off the area and offered trapped militants to surrender but in return, they fired upon forces triggering gunfight and after several hours of fierce gunfight, all the trapped six militants have been killed.

Earlier. a gunfight had erupted on Friday between militants and the security forces in Jammu and Kashmir's Anantnag district, police said.Upon receiving a tip-off, the security forces began a search operation in Sehtepora Bijbihara Village."As the security forces closed in on the hiding militants, they fired triggering the ongoing gunfight," the police said.

As a precautionary measure, authorities have suspended mobile internet services in Anantnag.
