Gunfight begins in Srinagar after tip-off about militant presence

Srinagar, Dec 9: A gunfight that started on Saturday evening in the outskirts here continues on Sunday, a Jammu and Kashmir Police official said.A tip-off about militant presence that led the security forces to surround Mujgund area, had left a soldier, a trooper and three policemen injured on Saturday as the holed up militants opened fire on them.In the last 18 hours, the security forces have been able to bring down a few militants. Informed sources put the number of slain militants at two.A lone militant continued firing at the security forces shifting his location in the encounter site, a police officer said, adding that an official confirmation on slain militants would only come after a body count.Authorities have suspended mobile Internet services in Srinagar district.
