New Delhi, Oct 11: Finally he sacrificed his life to save Maa Ganga. Noted environmentalist Prof G D Agrawal was on indefinite hunger strike for last 111 days, breathed his last at AIIMS Rishikesh. Prof Agarwal has been championing the cause of river Ganga. The IIT professor-turned-saint had been demanding for pollution free and free flowing Ganga. He wanted ban on mining along Ganga, and was against construction of dams on the river. He was on fast since June 22.
The veteran activist had stopped drinking water since Tuesday. He had also refused to take medicine, water or any fluid/juice orally. However, he had allowed doctors to administer potassium orally and drip to provide 500ML saline fluid every day to maintain minimum fluid and electrolyte need of the body, an aide of Prof Agarwal said.
Meanwhile, the crusader and his associates charged the Centre with false and misleading claims about the government's action over Prof Agrawal (now Swami Gyan Swaroop Sanand's) demands.
They said that Union Minister Uma Bharti had made factually wrong statement on Wednesday about the Centre's approval and due implementation of the demands.
"The Government has so far done nothing in respect of the demands made by Prof Agrawal", the aides added.
