New Delhi (Anish Yande): WhatsApp has introduced a feature through which messages in a conversation disappear over a set period. The messages shall disappear over seven days. Facebook has introduced this feature on its messaging platform, Facebook Messenger, as well. Check here how to enable the disappearing messages in WhatsApp.
How to Enable WhatsApp Disappearing messages:
Step 1. Open the WhatsApp chat on your Android or iOS devices.
Step 2. Select the contact name on the upper portion of the chat.
Step 3. The details of the contact with their profile photo can be found here. Listed here is a Disappearing messages option. The Disappearing messages option is listed above the Message Encryption option.
Step 4. You have the option to enable the Disappearing messages option
How to enable WhatsApp Disappearing messages on KaiOS:
Step 1. Select the WhatsApp chat you want to enable the feature.
Step 2. Select the Options tab. Then select the View Contact option and press OK.
Step 3. Choose the Disappearing Messages and select the Edit option.
Step 4. Then select the On option and then press OK.
How to turn off the Disappearing Messages feature on Android and iOS devices:
Follow the steps listed above to access the chat and contact's name again.
Then select the Disappearing messages option. Choose the option to turn it off to disable the feature.
Things to Remember when enabling Disappearing Messages:
Disappearing messages would also be applied to photos and videos shared in chat. After seven days, the messages would disappear. Auto-download can help save these media messages. There is an option to save media despite Disappearing messages being enabled.
To keep a record of chats, users can take screenshots or copy messages.
Messages before the update wouldn't be affected according to WhatsApp.
While enabling the Disappearing Messages, users should remember that the time frame of seven days cannot be changed for chats. Before turning the messages on, this should be kept in mind.
