Salman became a cult; he emerged as one of the most bankable actors. However, over the years, he has been at the center of several controversies, too, attracting the spotlight for all the wrong reasons. Here are some of the worst controversies Khan ever courted.
Blackbuck Poaching Case
In 1998 Salman Khan's name got tarnished for the first time. The actor was accused of hunting an endangered blackbuck while shooting for Sooraj Barjatya's 'Hum Saath Saath Hain'. He was sentenced to five years of imprisonment and is currently out on bail.
The infamous hit-and-run case happened in 2002 when Salman Khan’s white Toyota Land Cruiser crashed into the pavements near a Bakery at Hill Road in Bandra, killing one person and injuring four others. He was booked under provisions of IPC, Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, and Bombay Prohibition Act, 1949. But he soon got out on bail and was acquitted of all charges in 2015.
Known to be a possessive boyfriend, Salman was accused by his then-girlfriend Aishwarya Rai of cheating and abusing in 2001. Rumors have it that Salman reached Aishwarya's apartment in a fit of fury, threatening to jump off the roof of Gorakh Hill tower if Aishwarya did not let him in.
In an interview, Aishwarya had said, "I stood by him enduring his alcoholic misbehaviour in its worst phases and in turn I was at the receiving end of his abuse (verbal, physical and emotional), infidelity and indignity. That is why like any other self-respecting woman I ended my relationship with him."
Salman and Shah Rukh Rift
Once inseparable, the Karan-Arjun of B-town had a brawl at Katrina's birthday party in 2008. The two reconciled at Baba Siddiqui's Iftaar party. After they patched up, they poked fun at their fight at the Star Screen Awards in 2016.
'Raped woman' Remark
Salman Khan has been habitually outspoken, but he crossed all limits with his 'raped woman' remark. For his role in sports drama Sultan, Salman had to undergo difficult physical training, and speaking about the same, he had told reports that he felt like a raped woman after the extremely grueling shoot for the film 'Sultan'. Later, his father Salim Khan had apologised for his "insensitive comment".
