LAST UPDATED: April 8, 2021, 12:47 p.m.

New Delhi: India has reported unprecedented surge in daily number of coronavirus cases in the last three weeks. As of now, the country has more than 9 lakh active cases of the viral infection. With the huge surge, many states across the country have imposed night curfews and weekend lockdowns. Maharashtra, the worst hit state by the pandemic in the country, has, too, imposed night curfew and weekend lockdown as the situation on covid front continues to worsen with the state alone reporting around 60k cases on Wednesday.  Amid this, it seems like Salman Khan starrer Radhe: Your Most Wanted Bhai, which fans have been anticipating  for more than a year, may get postponed indefinitely.

The film is scheduled to hit the theatres on May 13 on the occasion of Eid. Considering the current pandemic situation, it appears a very difficult task for the state to curb down the daily rise in number of cases. And releasing a Salman Khan starrer amid this will surely not help the situation. While the actor is still hopeful that his film will be able to release in theatres on the decided date, he hasn't ruled out the possibility that it might face delay if covid cases do not reduce by that time.

Salman, during an interview with veteran actor Kabir Bedi, shared the status of his film Radhe and said, "We are still trying our best to release Radhe - Your Most Wanted Bhai on Eid. If this lockdown continues, then we might have to push it to next Eid."

"If cases reduce, if people take care of themselves, wear masks, maintain social distance and don't break these rules put by the government, I think this (the second wave) would die off very soon. And if it does, then we'll have Radhe - Your Most Wanted Bhai in theatres on Eid,"said Salman Khan.

The actor also urged his followers to abide by all the guidelines and asked them to maintain covid appropriate behaviour.  "However, if the citizens don't listen and the cases of coronavirus continue to grow, then it'll pose a problem not only to the theatre owners but also to the daily wage workers. It'll prove to be bad just like it was during the last lockdown. So everyone should take the second wave very, very seriously and ensure that we kill this coronavirus and that we move on in our lives before it kills us all," he said. Salman Khan signed off saying, "By the grace of god, film acchi bani hai. Chal bhi jaayegi. But what's important is that the people should not get the virus."

In an attempt to curb the rise in covid-19 cases, Maharashtra government on Sunday announced weekend lockdown from 8pm on Friday to 7 am on Monday. The state is also facing night curfew that will remain in effect till April 30.
