New Delhi: Legendary music composer Vanraj Bhatia has passed away at his residence in Mumbai today (May 7). The noted composer was ailing for some time. He was 93. Vanraj is best known for composing music for films such as Ankur, 36 Chowringhee Lane and TV show Tamas.
Reacting to the unfortunate news, filmmaker Hansal Mehta tweeted, "RIP Maestro."
Actor-politician Smriti Irani expressed shock at the news and paid her respect to the musician with a tweet. “Shocked to learn about the passing away of Vanraj Bhatia. Wagle ki Duniya , Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron, he leaves behind countless memories in his scores. My condolences to his loved ones & fans.” she wrote.
Actor Farhan Akhtar too expressed his grief on Twitter. He wrote: RIP #VanrajBhatia .. apart from the many other brilliant musical works he created, I vividly remember the theme of ‘Tamas’ that started with a shriek so filled with anguish, it could send a chill up anyone’s spine and break anyone’s heart.
Vanraj has composed music for famous television shows like Tamas and Bharat Ek Khoj. Vanraj is called the foremost composer of western classical music of India. He won a National Film Award for Tamas, which was directed by Govind Nihalani. In 2012, Bhatia was also conferred with the Padma Shri Award.
