New Delhi: Punjabi singer Gippy Grewal and some of his crew members were arrested on Saturday for allegedly flouting Covid -19 restrictions while shooting for a film at Banur in Punjab's Patiala district. They were later released on bail, police said.
A police official said over 100 people had gathered at the shooting site in a village in Banur, even as a weekend lockdown was in force in Punjab. A case under section 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) of the IPC, relevant sections of the Epidemic Diseases Act and the Disaster Management Act has been registered at Banur police station. DSP Rajpura, Gurvinder Singh said, “We have booked Gippy Grewal and his some team members under Section 188 of IPC, Section 51 Disaster Management Act and Section 3 of Epidemic Act. Initially, the police was informed that around 100 team members are present at the site but later when police reached they found only a few people present there. They were arrested and released on bail. The action against the owner of land that was given or leased for the movie shooting process will also be taken in accordance with the rules.”
A few days ago, actor Jimmy Shergill was booked for flouting Covid-19 rules in Ludhiana. The actor was accused of defying the Covid lockdown while shooting for the web series, Your Honor 2, in a private school in Ludhiana, Punjab. While shooting, Jimmy, along with all the crew members of the show, didn’t follow the Covid-19 rules and regulations. In fact, the shooting went on even after 8 pm, two hours after curfew was enforced. When the police was notified about the same, they reached the spot and found more than 100 people at the location of the shoot. A case was later filed against Jimmy and all the crew members.
