Excerpts from the Interview:
Did you watch the India VS New Zealand World Cup semi-final match?
No, I didn't see the match but I know the result. But I would like to say that all the cricketers are extremely passionate, be it Virat Kohli or Mahendra Singh Dhoni. As India couldn’t make it to the World Cup 2019 finals, all the cricket fans are getting too emotional as it is quite heartbreaking and obvious as well. But we should support the Indian cricket team as I am very sure that they gave their best. They did their best whatever they could.
Mahendra Singh Dhoni should take retirement or not?
Retirement is one's personal choice. I definitely feel Dhoni should keep playing as he is really good at his game and a strong player. I don't think he should retire and he should continue playing.
As India couldn’t make it to ICC World Cup 2019 finals, any message to the Indian cricket team?
I would say we as Indian and cricket fans are too emotional because it is about the World Cup. But they (Indian cricket team) did their best and we should always be cheering out for them and that's what we could do. And I also know that we all were very hopeful about India playing the World Cup final.
What would you like to say to the Indian cricket team captain Virat Kohli?
I saw Virat was crying after India lost in the semi-finals. So, I would just tell him that you should not cry as you are the best captain. There are billion hearts which are still with Virat, Dhoni and the Indian cricket team. So, they should not get disappointed.
You landed yourself in controversy by sharing a cosy picture with Virat Kohli’s wax statue. You were massively trolled for it. Any comments on it?
I am quite unaware of the controversy and also about the negative comments on social media platforms. But yes, I would like to say to all the social media trolls that Virat is my ‘Jiju’ and why can I not have a picture with him. I had gone to Madame Tussauds with my family and I had a shoot over there. I had pictures with lots of other celebrity statues as well. So, what’s wrong in that?
What would you like to say to the social media trolls?
When it comes to my social media, I don't really read comments. I have always received inspiring, encouraging things from my fans. I would urge everyone to be very positive. I wish them lots of love and positivity.
How do you deal with all the negative comments?
With time we (celebrities) become very thick-skinned so all these negative comments don't really matter to us. But yes, I would like to say that when you are a public figure you should be ready to face the backlash from critics and others because when they shower so much love upon you then you should also be ready to take negative feedback as well.
Are you aware of Kangana Ranaut’s controversy? What would you like to say to her?
Kangana Ranaut is a self-made actress and I have lots of respect for her. She also directed ‘Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi’ which was not an easy task. It was about a warrior princess and not an easy film. We as an artist understand what kind of effort and hard work goes behind creating such kind of cinema, or a classic movie like ‘Manikarnika’. As far as Kangana’s reaction to the negative comments received by media persons are concerned, I would say it is quite obvious to get hurt when you read such negative comments. But I would like to add here that there might be many untold facts behind the viral Kangana-journalist spat video. When you don't know the entire story, there is no point of making any comment on it.
You recently claimed that you were blackmailed by your PR. What’s the truth?
After the controversy, I stated my point on the social media account. And yes, I would like to say that I it was the decision of my entire team to post something like that on social media account. With this, I have also set an example for every girl that if anyone is misbehaving with you in any way you should come out in public and address it. You should never be afraid of any person and always come out as a strong version of yourself.
Do you think nepotism exists in Bollywood or not?
Nepotism definitely exists in Bollywood and because of its chances of star kids getting a movie is 100 times faster than any outsider. But I would suggest to all the outsiders who want to try their luck in the industry to keep following their dream no matter what.
Do you think star kids are hampering the career of other Bollywood celebs?
Yes, the career of other Bollywood celebrities are definitely getting affected because of star kids.
Are you doing an item number in 'Pagalpanti' or essaying any character?
I have a full-fledged role in 'Pagalpanti'. It is a very meaty role and I am really excited about it. I would like to thanks the filmmaker Anees Bazmee for giving me such an amazing opportunity. My character is about a girl next door but it is a nice and challenging one. ‘Pagalpanti’ is a comedy film and I always love doing such films.
Who is your dream director?
I am working with my dream director Anees Bazmee. Meanwhile, I have some other projects as well in the pipeline but it would be too early to talk about them.
You completed 18 million followers on Instagram. Any new plan to entertain social media fans?
I just want to thank all my social media fans and would let them know that they mean a lot to me. I promise them that I will keep presenting some exciting and different kinds of stuff to them. I will keep entertaining them. And really would want to thanks them to be part of my journey.
