BJP should come clean about massive corruption in MCD: AAP leader Saurabh Bhardwaj

LAST UPDATED: Dec. 4, 2020, 10:25 p.m.

New Delhi: Senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and chief spokesperson Saurabh Bhardwaj on Friday said that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested BJP leader Manoj Mehlawat in connection with a bribery case.

He said that BJP ruled MCD's building department runs an extensive mafia network. He said that the AAP demands that the BJP should immediately come clean regarding who all get the benefit of such massive financial loot. He said that the CBI did not know that the arrested person was a BJP councillor, therefore, later they had to keep their mouth shut on the matter.

"The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is exposing the corruption of the BJP ruled MCD and to do this we will be doing a total of 181 press conferences. Today is the press conference number seven and the example number seven of BJP‘s corruption inside the municipal corporations of Delhi. The way goondas work as a team, in the same way, there is building mafia with which the BJP ruled MCD work as a team. To protect this mafia the BJP ruled MCD has developed the building bylaws in Delhi. These bylaws are highly complicated and to build a house following these bylaws are next to impossible," Saurabh Bhardwaj said.

"If someone does not like to take any kind of illegal means to build their house then his or her house will never see the light of the day. Without bribing the BJP ruled MCD officials in Delhi you cannot build your own house because the bylaws are such. I am a concerned MLA of Delhi and I am telling you that not a single citizen of Delhi has any option but bribing the BJP ruled MCD officials to build his or her own house. This collection of money by the BJP ruled MCD happens in a very coordinated manner. Every area of Delhi has different rates defined by the BJP ruled MCD and the builder mafia. I come from the Greater Kailash area of Delhi so if anyone wants to build a house at GK1 then per lenter you will need to pay around Rs 2.5 lakh. So for 4 lenter you will pay Rs 10 lakh to the MCD," he added.

"This money goes from the bottom to top in the BJP ruled MCD. It starts with the beldar which means the local level workers who are associated with the BJP ruled MCD. This money reaches to the mayor starting from the local councillor also the officials of the BJP ruled MCD like engineers. If this money is not given then the person concerned will get notices from the BJP ruled MCD and his or her house will be sealed. Then the demolition of the house may take place. Maybe the BJP ruled MCD will move court or cut the electricity line or the waterline of the building."

Elaborating on the corruption racket being run by the BJP, Bhardwaj said, "There are brokers who initiate this transaction. In the BJP ruled MCD there is a post called beldar. They start this illegal transaction from the bottom-most level. When the last MCD elections took place then Shri Amit Shah who was the BJP president that point of time came with a slogan that "new faces new height". The BJP understood that the sitting councillors were so corrupt that if they get a ticket then the citizens of Delhi will not vote for them. So the BJP did not give the ticket to the sitting councillors and give tickets to the new faces for the MCD election in 2017. But significantly these new councillors who came to power they broke all the old records of corruption and took corruption of the BJP ruled MCD to a different height."

"From a very long time the AAP is saying that there is massive corruption at the building department of the BJP ruled MCD. When the Aam Aadmi Party alleged that there are crores of rupees corruption in the building department then the BJP ruled MCD used to threaten us by saying that they will file defamation complaints against us. But today it is very clear that they do not have fame then how can we defend them," he added.

"But after getting exposed in such a way for bribery and corruption if the highest leadership of the Bharatiya Janata Party still claims that there is no corruption in the BJP ruled MCD and they feel that everything is fine and fair inside the BJP ruled MCD. This means that there is a chance that this money also goes to the top leadership of the BJP. The Aam Aadmi Party believes that this cannot happen that such massive financial transactions and illegal financial transactions are happening inside the BJP ruled MCD and the top leadership of the BJP has no clue about it. The Aam Aadmi Party believes that the top leadership of the Bharatiya Janata Party has every information about such financial transaction and illegal transaction inside the BJP ruled MCD. We also believe that there is a high chance that the benefit of such transaction goes to the BJP’s top leadership too," he remarked.

"The Aam Aadmi Party demands that the top BJP leadership should come clean about their knowledge on this kind of illegal transactions inside the BJP ruled MCD. The Aam Aadmi Party wants to know that if the BJP top leadership knows about such transaction then what kind of steps have they taken against the corrupt MCD councillors of the BJP? "
