New Delhi: A Delhi Police inspector, accused of sexually harassing 24 women constables, has been summoned for questioning by the vigilance unit.
The inspector has also been asked to submit a written response to the allegations leveled by the policewomen, said sources. Confirming that the inspector has been summoned, an official from the vigilance department said they were also investigating the legal aspects of the case.
At least 24 policewomen had accused an inspector, posted in the Provisioning and Logistics unit, of sexual harassment. The matter came to the fore when a woman constable posted in the unit informed senior officers about the alleged harassment by the inspector. The constable said the inspector had sought a “private meeting” with her and started to harass her after she refused. Other policewomen later came forward with similar complaints against the inspector, said sources.
A complaint was sent to Police Commissioner Alok Kumar Verma, who forwarded it to the sexual harassment committee led by a joint commissioner-rank officer. The vigilance department of Delhi Police is also conducting a parallel inquiry into the matter.
