New Delhi: Government is planning to fix and notify retail prices of essential commodities like sugar, pulses, edible oils and milk, etc. This follows the fact there is major difference between prices of loose and packed essential commodities.
The Consumer Affairs Ministry has modified the rule pertaining to packaged commodities, enabling the Central and state government to fix retail prices. Once the government notifies the prices, no retailer can sell the essential commodity at a price higher than that fixed by the government. Any violation will lead to seizure of the stock and a fine of Rs 5000.
