New Delhi: The bypoll for Delhi's Rajouri Garden assembly constituency will be held on April 9.
Being viewed as a precursor to the municipal elections on April 23, it will be a popularity test for the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), of revival for the Congress, and a prestige issue for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
The seat fell vacant after sitting legislator Jarnail Singh, of the AAP, quit to contest from the Lambi seat in Punjab against Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) patron Parkash Singh Badal.
The AAP named Harjeet Singh, another Sikh face, as its candidate for the bypoll.
The BJP-SAD alliance candidate is Manjinder Singh Sirsa and Meenakshi Chandela is the Congress nominee.
