New Delhi: India's renowned motorcycle manufacturer Hero MotoCorp is all set to make a strong entry in the electric vehicle business. In this sequence, the company has already announced the manufacturing plans for its upcoming scooter, which will be launched in the Indian market by the first quarter of 2022. Recently the company has registered the name 'Vida' which is likely to be used for its electric two-wheeler.
Hero Electric, Hero MotoCorp cannot sell electric vehicles under the name 'Hero' due to which the company is considering a new name which can be used for its EV. Hero has filed patents for several names including Vida, Vida MotoCorp, Vida EV, Vida Electric, Vida Scooters and even Vida Motorcycles.
The Hero Electric Scooter will make its official debut by March 2022. Because it has already entered into an agreement with Taiwanese company Gogoro for battery swapping technology. Hero, India's largest two-wheeler maker, has shared a glimpse of its battery-powered scooter in 2021. The glimpse was unveiled as the part of Hero's 10th anniversary celebrations in August this year.
At the same time, when launched, Hero's first e-scooter is likely to give tough competition to its already established rivals like Bajaj Chetak Electric, Ather 450X and TVS iQube. It is believed that Hero will keep the price of the scooter under Rs 1 lakh to give competition to its rivals in the segment. Currently, Ola's electric scooter remains a topic of discussion, for which bookings were started for an amount of Rs 499.
