New Delhi (Anish Yande): The fifth round of the Mobility & Automobile Innovation Lab initiative has been commenced by Maruti Suzuki. This initiative supports startups by providing them several opportunities in real-world scenarios. The MAIL initiative was launched in January last year. Maruti Suzuki states that its goal is more than a startup accelerator and that it seeks to nurture and guide these startups.
Details About the MAIL Program:
Maruti Suzuki has described MAIL as an initiative that provides startups with tech solutions and industry exposure. The MAIL initiative focuses on providing startups with opportunities to develop their products in real-world business scenarios. These opportunities include working on technology and solutions that would boost the startup in real-world scenarios.
The automobile company to date has collaborated with 18 startups through the MAIL program. These collaborations have resulted in 10 proof of concepts from the startups on board. According to the company, they have had two successful years of collaborating and supporting the startups.
The company is currently inviting entries from early startups that are in the automobile industry.
The details for MAIL could be found on Maruti's MAIL webpage.
Benefits for Startups in India:
In the third round of the MAIL initiative, startups such as Peer Robotics, Vicara, Hyper-Reality, and URJA were selected. These startups worked on specific domains within the automobile landscape. These domains included creating immersive experiences for the user through hand gestures, engaging customers through Virtual Reality, and monitoring energy utilization.
The startups that are selected in MAIL will receive several benefits. They would have the opportunity to collaborate on a paid project with Maruti Suzuki. An opportunity for Going-to-Market with Maruti Suzuki could also arise for the startups.
The Managing Director & CEO of Maruti Suzuki India, Kenichi Ayukawa, said in a statement that, in the fifth cohort, Maruti Suzuki was looking forward to engaging with more startups, which have innovative ideas for the automobile industry.
He stated that in light of the ongoing pandemic situation, entrepreneurs with 'disruptive ideas' could apply for the fifth round of Maruti Suzuki's MAIL initiative.
