New Delhi: World War 3 will be a reality soon. The US has shot down a medium-range ballistic missile off the coast of Hawaii on Wednesday, The US move comes within 24 hours of North Korea firing a missile over Japan on Tuesday.
It was as part of a new test of its missile defence system at sea, that the US Missile Defense Agency on Wednesday shot down the medium-range ballistic missile. The USS John Paul Jones, a guided-missile destroyer successfully launched an SM-6 interceptor missile to shoot down the target.
“We are working closely with the fleet to develop this important new capability, and this was a key milestone in giving our Aegis BMD ships an enhanced capability to defeat ballistic missiles in their terminal phase,” said MDA Director Lt. Gen Sam Greaves in a statement. He added, “We will continue developing ballistic missile defense technologies to stay ahead of the threat as it evolves.”
During the test, the ship detected and tracked a target missile "with its onboard AN/SPY-1 radar, and onboard SM-6 missiles executed the intercept," the statement said.
On Tuesday, North Korea had fired a ballistic missile from capital Pyongyang that flew over Japan before dropping into the northern Pacific Ocean
