New Delhi, August 31: Nitin Gadkari is likely to be the new Railway Minister replacing Suresh Prabhu who had offered to resign following a series of train accidents. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to reshuffle his Cabinet on Saturday. Reports say that Shipping, Aviation, Road Tranport and Railways ministries are likely to be merged and an infrastructure ministry under Gadkari will be created. On Thursday, BJP President Amit Shah met PM Modi to discuss the Cabinet reshuffle. Amit Shah also met ministers who are likley to be replaced.
Ahead of the reshuffle Skill Development Minister resigned from the Narendra Modi Cabinet on Thursday night. Reports said that Uma Bharti too has offered to resign citing health reasons. Minister of State (Health) Faggan Kulaste too has offered to quit, the reports added. Minister of State Sanjeev Balyan is likley to quit too. Another minister who may face axe on age grounds is Kalraj Mishra.
Arun Jaitley is likely to give up the defence portfolio as part of the Cabinet reshuffle.According to reports portfolios of Aviation Minister Ashok Gajapati Raju and Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh are likely to be changed. Also Power Minister Piyush Goyal and Petroleum Minister are likely to be promoted as Cabinet ministers.
