Breaking: Dawood's hawala operator commits suicide in Karachi..suffered losses after note ban

New Delhi: Hit by Indian note ban a Pakistan-based currency mafia has committed suicide. Javed Khanani was a big money exchange  broker was known to be working for Dawood and Lashkar for last many years. He died in Karachi after falling from an under construction building “Saima Towers” in Mohammad Ali Society. His death is being seen as suicide due to heavy losses.

It is believed that the Rs 2 lakh crore black money declaration in Mumbai under IDS was managed by Khanani on behalf of Dawood.    

Khanani,  a director of Khanani and Kalia International (KKI) money changers, had money laundering charges against him was arrested along with his brother Munaf Kalia by FIA in dramatic raid in November 2008. In 2014, he was arrested on charges of transferring foreign currency worth Rs140 million out of Pakistan.

The incident came less than a month after Javed’s brother Altaf Khanani pleaded guilty to charges of money laundering before a US court and was awarded 20-year imprisonment with a fine of $250,000. (News24Bureau)
