New Delhi: A residential 75-storey skyscraper in Dubai caught fire in the densely populated Marina district today, sending plumes of smoke into the air.
The Sulafa tower was engulfed in flames to at least 20 floors in the fire that appeared to have originated on the 35th floor.
Chunks of burning debris landed on surrounding buildings and neighbouring swimming pools with passers-by and workmen running for cover.
Relief and rescue teams were rushed to the spot to control the blaze while traffic in the area was also stopped as a precautionary measure.
It took firefighters over three hours to control the flames; the fire has now been extinguished.
